Grreat Choice Dome Light Fixture: Can You Really Trust the Generic Brand?

Last Updated on October 30, 2019 by Cassie Lyons

Grreat Choice Dome Lamp Fixture falls into the category of a necessary habitat maintainer for reptiles, hermit crabs, and turtles. Depending on what species you have decides if this is a reliable lamp fixture for you. This product can only hold up to 75 watts of incandescent bulbs, so you are limited with what creatures it can sustain. That is why the fixture is specifically marketed to hermit crab owners; however, there are some species of reptile that 75 wattage will fulfill their need while combined with another heat source.

The Positives
This product is a very good price for what it is- simply it is a lamp on a long cord with an on/off switch in the middle. That brings me to the luxury of having that on/off switch on the cord, not on the lamp itself. I have owned lamp fixtures where the switch was on the lamp and this lead to issues with securing the dome because of how complicated it was to have the dome attached the same place as the switch which is also where the bulb screwed in- this whole explanation sounds complicated to understand but that’s why the thing fell apart. Now with the Grreat Choice Dome Lamp Fixture there definitely is not that issue and I feel strongly that it is stable and will not just break apart.

The Negatives
I only have a minor issue with this product. The portion of the lamp that you must pick up to move the whole thing, gets hot. Now not unbearably hot, but I only have a 40 watt bulb in at the moment so an even stronger bulb might cause the lamp to be burning hot and impossible to move without gloves. Possibly putting heat resistant tape around the base might solve the issue, but I would’ve preferred if there wasn’t that issue in the first place.

So What’s The Scoop?
Grreat Choice Dome Lamp Fixture is really a decent buy if you don’t need a high wattage bulb. It seems to be of good quality, has the luxury of an on/off switch on the cord, and it’s cheap. Although the base gets hot to the touch, it doesn’t pose a risk to the actual animal and may be easily fixable, so I still would consider this an appropriate purchase.
