St. Ive’s Blackhead Clearing Green Tea Scrub: Is It Worthy of Being Your #1 Scrub?

Last Updated on September 4, 2017 by Cassie Lyons

St. Ive’s Blackhead Clearing Green Tea Scrub is a natural exfoliator and cleanser meant to treat acne and problem skin. It’s a light green paste with a slightly rough texture to aid in dead skin removal. It comes in a six ounce tube or a smaller travel size. I personally tried the travel size as I was in need of a facial scrub for a trip.

The Positives
This product is chalk full of positives: its exfoliants are 100% natural, it’s dermatology tested, and paraben free! But besides deriving its exfoliants from nature, it also uses green tea extract to combat acne prone skin. Green tea does this by reducing sebum production, being an anti-inflammatory, and by being anti-bacterial. To reduce sebum production, green tea has an ingredient within it called ECGG that tells the skin’s glands not to produce the sebum that makes your skin oily- simple as that! This miracle ingredient, ECGG, also has antioxidant effects that assist in reducing inflammation- a visible concern when it comes to active acne. Tet again ECGG benefits the skin by battling against colony forming bacteria, like the type that induces acne. ECGG is natural, effective, and gentle on the skin, and in my case was great at maintaining my skin without needing to use extra acne combatting products.

The Negatives
There aren’t many negatives to this product- it’s cheap, efficient, and natural (my favorite things). Something I might consider a negative of this product is that it doesn’t immediately work. After washing your skin doesn’t feel like there’s less sebum; In other words, there’s no refreshing, squeaky clean feeling that accompanies the product unfortunately.

So What’s The Scoop?
St. Ive’s Blackhead Clearing Green Tea Scrub is a natural exfoliating scrub that assists in improving acne prone skin by reducing sebum production, being anti-inflammatory, and anti-bacterial. It’s cheap and gets the job done; however, I wouldn’t consider it the best by far. There’s no immediate “clean” feeling after using it which I really enjoy in facial products. Therefore it’s really your preference of whether or not you want to purchase this product. It could always be a back-up or follow my lead and use it for travel.
