Never A Dull Blade With The Presto EverSharp Electric Knife Sharpener

Last Updated on October 3, 2017 by Cassie Lyons

It’s never fun to reach for a kitchen or sporting knife, only to find that the blade has dulled. With the Presto electric knife sharpener, you can enjoy super sharp knives all the time! This sharpener uses professional grade sapphirite sharpening wheels that can fine-tune knives made from stainless steel, alloy or carbon. The blade guides make sure that the knives are in the ideal position, and the sharpener uses a 2-stage system that sharpens and then hones the blades. When researching this product, I found that it received very high reviews. Since the majority of people own some sort of knife set, this sharpener is extremely handy to have in the home.

The Positives
Instead of handling the tedious task of sharpening knives by hand, this product gets the job done in minutes. It’s especially great if you’re in a last minute rush and need sharpened knives for dinner guests. It’s apparent that this product is very practical, but there are many knife sharpeners on the market. This product surpassed them all in many reviewers’ opinions. It can be used with just about any knife set and not only does a quick, efficient job of sharpening knives, but the knives stay sharp for longer.

Reviewers comment on how easy it is to carry out such jobs as carving a turkey or cutting through a steak with little effort. This knife sharpener is easy to use and takes about one minute to sharpen each knife. The sound isn’t very loud either, making this product suitable in homes with kids and pets. Reviewers also rave about the economical price of this sharpener, saying that there’s no need to buy a higher priced one, as this product does the job just as well!

The Negatives
Some reviewers felt that the knife sharpener did not live up to its expectations. In fact, some found that the sharpener actually ruined good knives by destroying the smoothness of the blade and messing up its angle. However, it’s important to remember that in order to get a new, clean blade; the machine will mess with the geometry. It’s critical that you carry out the job and hone the blade afterwards to bring the knives back to their restored condition. It’s suggested to practice on a cheaper knife set first if you haven’t sharpened knives before.

So What’s The Scoop?
I would definitely recommend this electric knife sharpener, as it’s affordable, easy to use and saves the hassle of having to hand-sharpen knives. If you’re interested in a more expensive, heavy-duty machine that uses a 3-stage process, I would suggest looking at the Chef’s Choice sharpeners, but know that these are nearly three times the price of the Presto, which many people claim works just as well.

If it’s one thing I really dislike in the kitchen, it’s dull knives. I use my fantastic Cutco knives constantly and chop a lot of vegetables, which end up being tough on knives. They dull relatively quickly and I love sending them back to Cutco for sharpening (which I just did) but the process takes a few weeks and I can’t often be without them that long. In my experience, the manual pull-through sharpener that Cutco provided is a very poor substitute for professional sharpening. While I haven’t used an electric sharpener like this, I would prefer to risk a little blade damage over time with a sharpener like this and gain better 24/7/365 cutting precision.

Sharpening depends on how often you use your knives. Case in point, my husband does sharpen during deer season, pretty often, generally after each kill, I will see him sharpen. Or in the summer when cleaning fish. Another obvious point you can tell when you need to sharpen is based on how effectively your knife cuts.

  5. I was just thinking about this the other day as I don’t think I’ve ever sharpened my knives! I remember when I was a kid we had one of those handheld ones that my mom would use. I think the electric option sounds really cool! And easy! 🙂

I currently use a manual knife sharpener and I hate it! My parents have an electric knife sharpener and just rave about how well it works – even on their expensive knives!!

I have never used a knife sharpener – first time for everyone!

This electric knife sharpener would be a handy way to keep them sharp – a lot easier than our manual one.

Hello, I feel that a good knife should be sharpened before each use, unfortunately I don’t know how to do it properly. There is nothing worse than a dull knife, not to mention it is dangerous. Thanks for a great giveaway!

I think the answer to the “how often should they be sharpened?” question is answered by how often are they used. I can start to tell when my knives aren’t performing to their best potential and thats when I wish we had a knife sharpener!

You are supposed to manually sharpen each time you use your knives. From what I understand, a sharpener like this is not for each time you use your knives but more of a long-term maintenance sharpener. I have found that these type of sharpeners are good for people that are unwilling or unskilled in manual sharpening and they do the job. I just wouldn’t over use them on expensive knives because they will reduce the lifetime of the knife.

I’ve used a manual sharpener before but honestly I don’t feel they work very well. So my thoughts are that these electric knife sharpeners would actually work better.

I don’t have any tips, but I do wonder how many times you can put knives through a sharpener – can they last ten years or more?

  14. Ericka Todd says:

A dull knife is a hazard. You get more hand cuts from a dull knife than a sharp one. I feel it is best to sharpen your knife every few uses, that way it stays extremely sharp.

My thought are that the electric way to sharpen knives is way better than manual!

I had an electric knife sharpener that got lost in a move and was never replaced. I loved it and would love to have another. I used on my good knives and never had one ruined. This is a much better option than manual sharpeners and less costly, more convenient than taking knives out to be sharpened.

Thank you for this awesome giveaway.

  17. Kathleen Smith says:

I think an electric sharpener would be awesome. I think for expensive knives, I would follow the manufactures recommendations.

  18. Dana Beeman says:

I’ve only used one electric sharpener, for a knife my family in Florida uses a ton, and I have to say it was quite convenient. It was much, much quicker and safer. If I don’t have an electric one on hand, which at the moment I don’t, I’d definitely sharpen the knife myself by hand slowly. I don’t think a well made electric knife sharpener would hurt a knife. Lastly, I think how often a knife should be sharpened depends on how often it’s used.

  19. Molly K says:

Do you think a good electric knife sharpener will ruin expensive knives? No, as long as it is a good brand that you trust and you follow the sharpener instructions and follow the knives instructions.

  20. Christian Alejandro N. says:

Yes.. a dull knife is dangerous since it can slip on certain produce.
